Birmingham Charity Dinner 2008 - A Great
Success!!! |
A charity dinner was organised by
Abdul Rehman Memorial Trust in
Birmingham on the 28th of June 2008 in
aid of Bewal International Hospital
project.
This event was well
attended with over 300 men , women and
children, mainly from the professional
community. The aim of this event was to
encourage more people to attend with
their families and enjoy the occasion
also help raise more funds.
People in attendance ranged from
hospital consultants, GP's and many
local businessmen and women. The event
started with recitation from the holy
Qur'an followed by an update on the
project from Dr Atiq-Ur Rehman,
financial accounts from Iftikhar Ali and
speeches from few prominent guests.
The chief guest speaker for the
event was Baroness Saeeda Warsi, who not
only is the first Pakistani women to sit
in the house of Lords but she also
belongs to the area of Bewal. She
pointed out many key health issues which
affect the people of Pakistan
encouraging all in attendance to donate
generously and help the people in need.
The fund raising began with the
introduction of Mr Habib Malik who is a
key member of Islamic relief. He has
travelled to all parts of the world to
help those in need. He highlighted the
importance of the existence of
charitable organisations which aim to
provide for those who would otherwise
suffer. The audience responded to his
call and donated very generously.
There were also a raffle and an
auction at the end. The prizes were
kindly donated by many local businessmen
and ranged from flat screen TV, air
conditioning unit, DVD and MP3
players. The highlight of the
evening was the auction of several
Islamic paintings and a signed boxing
glove and an autobiography of Amir Khan,
the future world's boxing champion no
doubt. The boxing glove was bought for a
huge sum of £5000.
The event was
a huge success and the amount
raised was in excess of £45,000.
The ARM Trust committee wishes to thank
all those who helped to make this
function a great success. Special thanks
to Dr Mehreen Ali who through her
enthusiasm and hard work not only sold
many tickets but also secured the prizes
for the raffle and the auction.
