Birmingham Charity Dinner 2008 - A Great Success!!!

A charity dinner was organised by Abdul Rehman Memorial Trust in Birmingham on the 28th of June 2008 in aid of Bewal International Hospital project.

This event was well attended with over 300 men , women and children, mainly from the professional community. The aim of this event was to encourage more people to attend with their families and enjoy the occasion also help raise more funds.

People in attendance ranged from hospital consultants, GP's and many local businessmen and women. The event started with recitation from the holy Qur'an followed by an update on the project  from Dr Atiq-Ur Rehman, financial accounts from Iftikhar Ali and speeches from few prominent guests.

The chief guest speaker for the event was Baroness Saeeda Warsi, who not only is the first Pakistani women to sit in the house of Lords but she also belongs to the area of Bewal. She pointed out many key health issues which affect the people of Pakistan encouraging all in attendance to donate generously and help the people in need.

The fund raising began with the introduction of Mr Habib Malik who is a key member of Islamic relief. He has travelled to all parts of the world to help those in need. He highlighted the importance of the existence of charitable organisations which aim to provide for those who would otherwise suffer. The audience responded to his call and donated very generously.

There were also a raffle and an auction at the end. The prizes were kindly donated by many local businessmen and ranged from flat screen TV, air conditioning unit,  DVD and MP3 players.  The highlight of the evening was the auction of several Islamic paintings and a signed boxing glove and an autobiography of Amir Khan, the future world's boxing champion no doubt. The boxing glove was bought for a huge sum of £5000.

The event was a huge success and the amount  raised was in excess of £45,000.

The ARM Trust committee wishes to thank all those who helped to make this function a great success. Special thanks to Dr Mehreen Ali who through her enthusiasm and hard work not only sold many tickets but also secured the prizes for the raffle and the auction.
